This is a 1940 live recording of Beethoven's Symphony No. 5, "Fate," and Symphony No. 9, with chorus, conducted by the Dutch master Willem Mengelberg with the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. Although an old recording, the rich, emotional, and powerful sound quality, which cannot be experienced on CD, and the dignified, commanding performance are captivating. This is a record released by Nippon Victor, which is extremely difficult to obtain now. 1.
