In nagashizome, glue is applied to the areas of the stencil that are to remain white, preventing the dye from penetrating the fabric. The dye is then poured onto the fabric. The threads themselves are dyed, so there is no front or back. They are highly absorbent, dry quickly, and have a smooth feel. The vibrant colors, a testament to the artisan's skill, will not fade with washing. The product becomes softer with each wash, and the texture deepens gradually. ⚠️ As this is a dyed product, there may be some bleeding or fading depending on the texture, but please understand this as part of the product's character. Tenugui are often used daily, like towels, to dry wet hands or objects, or to wipe away sweat, and they also absorb moisture many times throughout the day. However, if the edges of a tenugui were folded and sewn to prevent it from fraying, that area would have poor breathability and would be harder to dry, so for convenience, the edges are left uncut.
