It's a tribal rug from the Baluch people residing in Herat province, Afghanistan. Originally, it was the outer layer of a bag called a "barlisht," used to store household items, which has been repurposed into a rug. The simple purple "gul" motifs give it a primitive feel, and the kilim end decorations, unique to the barlisht, are quite stylish. Its size makes it perfect for an entryway mat or a small raised area. It's an easy-to-handle accent rug with a soft, supple feel. Although it's a 45-year-old vintage rug, it doesn't show much wear, likely because it was originally a bag. The pile is long and fluffy, and it's in mint condition with no noticeable stains or damage, and no repairs. It would feel great placed on a sofa seat.
