Thank you for viewing. This is an old Imari namasu dish purchased at an antique market. It's a hybrid of printing and hand-painting, a technique used in tableware of this era. Usually, the printing is mostly on the inside of the dish. The inside features pine, bamboo, plum, and a thunder pattern. I think it was a classic design even back then. On the other hand, the design around the rim changes drastically. There's a charmingly designed flower and bamboo fence. In the upper left of the fence is a vermilion and gold spiral pattern. Perhaps it's the sun? The mysterious vermilion and gold object in the upper right of the fence looks like a bird's feather. Feathers bring to mind the wind. Considering the sun and wind, it makes me think of "The North Wind and the Sun," an Aesop's fable. This gives me a satisfactory interpretation. It's an interesting answer. Between the sun and the feather is a design that seems to reconstruct stylish arabesques and shippo-tsunagi (seven treasures) patterns. The body of the dish uses a modern version of printed floral arabesques. Dishes from this period are fascinating. It has been repaired with kintsugi (gold joinery). Otherwise, there are no noticeable large scratches or chips. Please check the images carefully. Size: Approximately 15 cm wide Approximately 5 cm high
