"Sazae-san" was conceived by the author, the late Machiko Hasegawa, while she was strolling along the coast of Momochi, and the series began serialization in the evening edition of "Fukunichi" in 1946. On May 27, 2012, "Sazae-san Street" was established on a city road including the remains of the coast, as the second such street after the one in Sakurashinmachi Shopping Street in Tokyo, to commemorate the place where Sazae-san originated.
