Kongobu-ji Temple is the head temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect, located in Koya, Koya-cho, Ito-gun, Wakayama Prefecture. Officially, it is called Koyasan Kongobu-ji Temple. Koyasan is in northern Wakayama Prefecture, situated on a plateau-like basin at an altitude of about 800 meters, surrounded by mountains of about 1,000 meters. It is a religious city with over 100 temples concentrated in one area, a unique example in Japan.
