This is a piece by Teppei Ono, who has a workshop in Kochi. It's a yakishime (unglazed stoneware) small plate with three feet, combining the strength of the earth with warmth. I purchased it at Ono-san's solo exhibition about 30 years ago. Using reddish-brown rough clay containing a lot of iron, and firing it to a high temperature creates a natural color and a deep expression. The slightly elevated form, supported by the three conical feet, exudes a sense of quiet tension. I used to use it exclusively for Japanese sweets when guests came over. The warmth of the material gently enhances seasonal nerikiri (sweet bean paste) and dried confections. The moderate thickness when held in your hand and the soft curve of the rim are very beautiful. On the back, there is a "Te" signature in a cursive style, one of Ono-san's early signatures. It can be used as a Japanese sweet plate or for plating dishes. It also looks lovely with small chocolates (see photo 5). The hand-formed irregularities and the rustic texture of the rough clay convey the charm unique to his early works. The three conical feet on the back combine stability and design, and also have an object-like and tea utensil-like element, allowing you to feel the world of wabi-sabi (rustic simplicity). This round small plate is a rare piece from Ono-san's early 1990s production period. The conical feet are also very cute. Diameter: Approximately 9cm Height: Approximately 2cm at the highest point. This is an approximate measurement. There are clay particles and unevenness from the time of production. Please note that the plate is the only item included.
