These are CORNISH WARE ceramics, selected as one of the 100 most representative designs of the 20th century by the London Design Museum, despite their simple white and blue stripes. T.G.GREEN, founded in England in 1864, began producing these around the 1920s. They came to be called "Cornish Ware" because the blue and white stripes were inspired by the blue sky and white waves of Cornwall, and the design continues to be loved today. The iconic blue stripes of CORNISH WARE are created by layering blue clay over a white body and then scraping away the blue to create the striped pattern! So, if you look closely, there is a texture to the stripes, which is part of its popularity!
