Takeshi Yamachika (1930-2020) was born into a Kutani ware merchant family in Sano town and was involved in ceramics from a young age. While attending the current Kanazawa College of Art, he studied under Tojiro Kitade and Zentaro Takegoshi (2nd Taizan). After graduating, he held solo exhibitions while working as an art teacher in elementary and junior high schools, and exhibited his works mainly at the Creative Art Association. He also instructed over a hundred people aiming to become Kutani ware artisans and artists in the Kutani ware overglaze painting research group "Kenzankai" and others. Furthermore, his creations were not limited to colored porcelain; during his teaching days, he noticed the richness of expression in Haniwa (ancient clay figurines) and, following the handiwork of ancient people, he also produced Haniwa.
