Antique Venetian Point de Venise from Italy. Beautiful openwork cross and floral patterns, using a fisherman's net technique. A flower-shaped, round, scalloped doily. Handmade Venetian/Burano lace from Burano Island, Venice. Also known as Venetian lace, and referred to internationally as Point de Venise. Likely a piece over 100 years old. Three-dimensional berries and mini roses floating on a bridge. Inside the petals, an openwork cross resembling a Maltese cross is visible in the center, like a silhouette. It's lovely, imbued with a sense of mystery and solemnity. ✠ Eight flowers woven into this small piece. Flowers resembling lilies and orchids, alternating with flower motifs reminiscent of the sun or sunflowers. The flowers bloom gently, as if holding hands and standing shoulder to shoulder. The loops on the edges of the petals have three picot stitches each ➰️ Each bridge in the space also has one picot. A mellow cream ivory color. An elegant tone reminiscent of vanilla ice cream, slightly skin-toned, with a buttery feel. Smooth, supple, and firm. A soft and attractive texture. I imagine it's made of high-quality linen thread. Venetian lace is mainly made using a needle, tightly twisting thin, firm, and strong linen thread, and meticulously weaving a pattern like a fisherman's net, stitch by stitch. It's not too delicate and is also highly durable and robust.
