The 40ES has the smallest rim diameter and shallowest cup in the regular lineup. It's comparable to a Bach 10-1/2, so while the rim is small, it doesn't feel cramped and is easy to handle. The cup is shallow but a typical U-shaped type, making it very easy for classical players to transition to. The 692s backbore is described by the manufacturer as "the tightest backbore currently available. It offers resistance and is ideal for high ranges. Suitable for open instruments." When played, it produces a sharp, piercing sound that carries far, like a laser beam. Depending on the instrument, it can easily handle double high notes. The #4 shank is thicker than the #5 shank, which is widely sold in Japan, providing a moderate resistance and a sound with more presence compared to the #5 shank. It pairs exceptionally well with instruments like Calicchio and Charlie Davis models. I ordered this from the manufacturer and used it a few times in big band performances.
