His wife was the novelist Takako Takahashi. As a scholar of Chinese literature, he strove to speak of Chinese classics to modern people, while also speaking out on various issues in modern society, gaining many readers among the All-Campus Joint Struggle Committee generation. He made his literary debut with "The Vessel of Sorrow" (1962). His major works include "The Melancholy Faction" (1965) and "The Heretical Sect" (1966).
