This is a Qing dynasty jar. It is a lidded jar (ginger jar) with blue and white painting on white porcelain, known as "qinghua" (blue and white) in China or "sometsuke" (dyed painting) in Japan. This jar features a large depiction of the Chinese auspicious character "囍" (shuāng xǐ). This character is composed of two "喜" (happiness) characters, and is written as "双喜" (double happiness), symbolizing joy in marriage and celebrations, and is a very auspicious character. Features: Sometsuke (qinghua): A ceramic technique in which cobalt pigment is used to paint on a white base, which is then glazed with a transparent glaze and fired. "囍" character: An auspicious character often used in Chinese weddings and celebrations, representing double happiness. Floral arabesque pattern: The sides of the jar are decorated with a floral arabesque pattern, with vines intertwined, which signifies prosperity and longevity.
