Purchased from Kodo SAKATA: Southeast Asian Khmer Pottery This item holds special meaning, purchased from Kodo Sakata in Mejiro, and I hope to pass it on to someone who appreciates it. It is a valuable antique from the 1940s-50s. According to Mr. Sakata, it is an old piece of Vietnamese Song Be ware. He explained that it is a rare example of existing pottery from Southeast Asia, made by molding, applying glaze, and painting with pigments such as chromium, copper, cobalt, and iron oxide. It was then stacked in multiple layers for efficient firing and fired in a climbing kiln at a low temperature of 1200°C or less. He also mentioned that it is a museum piece and rarely seen. The crackle pattern is also beautiful.
