Out of print One of the leading string quartets of the 20th century, the "Quartetto Italiano," highly popular in Japan, was formed in 1945. Known for their Italianate richness of song and their resonant, full sound, they were active until 1980 and enjoyed worldwide popularity. This set commemorates the 70th anniversary of their founding and includes all of their recordings for Philips and Decca. Ten of the discs are making their CD debut, and the 37th disc features Brahms' Piano Quintet (DG original) performed with Maurizio Pollini.
