Tokozan Kazan-in Bodaiji Temple, known as one of the extra pilgrimage sites of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, along with the famous Goyo (sacred poem), is located in Amadera, Mita City, and is one of the temples with the most visitors in the city. The Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage is a general term for 33 sacred sites of Kannon faith scattered across 2 prefectures and 4 prefectures in the Kinki region and Gifu Prefecture. The pilgrimage using these sacred sites as temples is the most historically significant pilgrimage in Japan, and many visitors still visit today. "Thirty-three" comes from the faith that Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokiteśvara) transforms into 33 different forms when saving sentient beings, as described in the "Myoho Renge-kyo Kanzeon Bosatsu Fumonbon Dai-nijugo" (Kan'on-kyo). It means to visit the 33 sacred sites to receive their merit.
