This item was purchased at the Ichizawa Hanpu main store in Kyoto. It has two pockets. While I'm not certain, I believe it was sold as a wallet. It's large enough to hold a bankbook, and I've tried putting one in it. Since then, it has been stored in a dark place. It has never been used to hold money or taken outdoors. The subdued purple color and beige piping provide an accent. I believe it's been over 20 years since I purchased it. There is wear and tear typical of canvas.
