This is a set of two inlaid yunomi (teacups). After shaping with red clay, white slip is applied and dried. Then, excess white slip is removed with a carving tool, leaving the floral pattern. Since repairs are impossible if a mistake is made, one tends to be cautious. However, the difficult part of this technique is that being too cautious can diminish the momentum of the carving.
