This is a wooden Natsume (tea caddy) with a lacquer finish, featuring a Shikishi Maki-e design in a dark red (tame-nuri) lacquer. The Maki-e depicts plum blossoms, irises, pampas grass (susuki?), bamboo (sasa), and pine needles. The usage history is unknown. There are minor scratches (photo 7) and some paint peeling on the edge of the lid (photo 8), but there is little noticeable dirt or damage, and the condition can be considered relatively good. Please note that there is no accompanying box. Also, I determined it was made of wood because it floated in water.
