You can adjust it depending on what you put inside. When children start kindergarten, they may only need one lunch box, but in the summer, they might need more ice packs, want to bring dessert in a separate container, or want to put onigiri separately from the lunch box. You'll likely find that the items you need to pack increase. It's made with a little extra room, so it can fit both vertically and horizontally, depending on the size of the lunch box.
