This is card #28, Gordon Coventry, from the "Portraits of Our Leading Footballers" series of cigarette cards produced by J.J. Schuh of Australia in 1923. It has been graded Ex-Mint 6 by PSA. J.J. Schuh, a tobacco company based in Melbourne, Australia, included various themed cigarette cards in their "Magpie Cigarettes" in the early 1920s. Among these, portrait cards of Australian Football players were particularly popular. This Coventry card is considered one of the most important among them, and many collectors believe it to be his first card. Coventry was one of the most outstanding forwards in the VFL (the sport's premier league at the time) during the 1920s and 1930s, and his scoring ability and consistency were compared to those of cricket's Don Bradman.
