The composition of the center of the plate perfectly harmonizes tension and the beauty of negative space, while the iron glaze on the rim and the relief patterns on the back highlight the powerful presence of Arita Kutani among the early Imari pieces. This piece is of the same hand as those in the Shibata couple's collection, and similar examples are also housed in museums.
