Chinen-ke is a workshop that carries on the legacy of the Chinen family, one of the three main families of Bingata artisans who served the Ryukyu Kingdom's士族 (shi-zoku, a class of gentry). This is a Bingata fukuro obi (formal obi) created by Toma Chinen, the 10th generation of the family, counting from the first, Sekitaka Chinen. It is a masterpiece with the shimmering of silver thread and vividly colored pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms dyed beautifully. There is a signature, but it is stamped upside down relative to the direction of the obi's end. The outer fabric is thin and has a crisp feel (the lining is not see-through), so it is suitable for the seasons of single-layer kimono to lined kimono. With a Japan Wasai Gijutsuin (Japanese Kimono Sewing Technology Institute) tag. There are areas where the thickness of the warp threads changes, perhaps due to knots. Also, there are a few places where the threads appear to be slightly raised (these areas appear darker green in the images), though it is unclear whether this is from the weaving process or from use. There are faint spots of discoloration on the obi lining overall.
