Zao Gongen, famous as the principal image of Shugendo, is formally known as Kongo Zao Gongen. Kongo Zao represents the ultimate and eternal truth. Enku's Zao Gongen is incredibly cute yet divine. I reconstructed it in a world of 15 x 4 x 3 cm. Last year, I visited Kinpusen-ji Temple in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture, and admired the Zao Gongen. I carved this while burning Zao incense, which I purchased there. It's a Buddha statue that fits in the palm of your hand, and you can be with it anywhere. It's made of Japanese Hinoki cypress, so it has a pleasant fragrance. As a characteristic of hand-carving, there may be asymmetry and splinters. ★ Immediate purchase is OK.
