With a deep belief that "God's love is equally bestowed upon all people," she founded the "Sisters of St Joseph" and visited not only towns and rural areas, but also places where no one else would go. What she valued most was "being close to the hearts of those who are hurt." Mary gently comforted those suffering from sexual abuse, those who were misunderstood by their families and society and had lost their place, and those who didn't know who to show their tears to. Instead of judging people, she chose to "share their pain and pray together." Her path was by no means smooth. She was misunderstood for trying to protect the vulnerable, and at times received unfair treatment from the church. However, Mary did not become angry, but quietly continued her service and prayers. Her actions were later understood, and she was led to canonization. Today, Saint Mary MacKillop is revered as the patron saint of those who support victims of sexual abuse and the LGBTQ+ community, as well as those who "stand with others in their pain." The small medal, like a warm light gently illuminating the heart, will quietly tell you, "You are not alone."
