Tokai LSJ80 (Made in Japan, 2011) This model is relatively recent, but it is still a guitar meticulously crafted at the Tokai headquarters factory (Japan). The woodworking precision is extremely high, with the body constructed of a two-piece mahogany with a center joint, and the beautiful ribbon-like figuring is visible through the semi-transparent red finish. It is lightweight yet well-balanced, and the resonance when held is superb. Every note responds vividly the moment it's played, conveying even the finest nuances. The hardware is robust, and tuning stability is excellent. When used with a distorted amplifier, it produces a thick, rounded tone, adding depth and presence to chords and lead playing. The balance between fatness and brilliance is exquisite, with a clear attack and a sound that is easy on the ears. It also resonates very well even when clean, and when the tone is slightly rolled off, you can enjoy a sweet and smooth clean tone. This model has already been discontinued and is a rare find.
