【Yakumo-nuri】 Yakumo-nuri was created in the early Meiji era in Izumo by Heichi Sakata, a lacquer craftsman from Matsue, who was inspired by Chinese lacquerware. The name "Yakumo-nuri" comes from the ancient Izumo poem "Yakumo Tatsu" (Clouds Rising). After applying various colored lacquers, mother-of-pearl, gold, and silver powder to the base, designs are drawn. Then, high-quality natural transparent lacquer is applied over the designs, and the piece is polished using traditional techniques.
