An offering of a black lacquered, snail-motif, maki-e incense container with pewter rims, made by Issai Saijo. This exquisite piece by Issai, cherished for many years, is in good condition with no noticeable damage other than extremely minor wear and tear from storage. The inside of the lid bears the kao (signature) of Soya Hisada, the 12th head of the Omotesenke school of the Hisada family, and the box lid also has a written kao.
