The carp streamers depicted in Utagawa Hiroshige's ukiyo-e print "One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Suidobashi and Surugadai," drawn in 1857 (Ansei 4), are revived in the present Reiwa era. The seller has selected the fabric, cut, painted, and sewn everything by hand to create these hand-painted carp streamers. In the Showa era, yellow was often used for cotton carp streamers made in various regions. Following this tradition, we have hand-dyed yellow cotton fabric to create the Edo Hiroshige carp streamers. While mass-produced nylon and polyester carp streamers are the mainstream today, we hope you will celebrate the May Festival with these hand-painted cotton carp streamers like the Hiroshige ones.
