Approx. 93.6g (Product Description) This is a very thin cup & saucer from the Meiji era, painted with delicate hand-painting. It is very thin, so you can see the painting on the back when held up to the light. There is a handwritten inscription on the back that reads "Made by Imura, Yokohama, Japan." I believe this is a work from the workshop of Hikojiro Imura, who won silver and gold prizes at the Paris and St. Louis World's Fairs. The reference image shows a wooden box that contained documents (washi paper) from 1895, so I believe this piece predates the St. Louis World's Fair. It looks like a detailed Japanese painting with beautiful negative space. This depicts a monk viewing Mt. Fuji. Pampas grass and bush clover are depicted. There are no cracks or chips, but as it is old, there are some unevenness in the glaze and pinholes. Please be aware of this. Also, I have included a reference image of water being poured into it. Please check the images. Six pieces with different designs were wrapped in cotton and placed in the box shown in the reference image. (Notes) I live with a cat.
