This is a bronze Orthodox cross from Russia, dating from the 18th to 19th centuries. I acquired it from a Western antique collector. The exact material is unknown, but judging from the rust, I suspect it is a copper alloy. The top ring is missing, as it was when I acquired it. There is no deterioration of the metal itself. Russian antiques, which are subject to very strict regulations regarding the export of cultural items, are now very rare. Although it is a small piece, it is an item that conveys a sense of history.
