The hood is not detachable. I'm selling this because I haven't had much chance to wear it since I bought it new, and my child has outgrown it. It has been dry cleaned, so you can use it right away. It's fluffy, light, and recommended. The color is gray. The cuffs are also clean, so please check the images. I think it would be lovely for both boys and girls.
