This is an Osugata-mamori (a type of amulet) available for purchase at Nishinomiya Shrine. It is an amulet that allows you to carry the images (omikage) of Ebisu-sama and Daikoku-sama. A protective outer bag is also included. Omikage refers to "an amulet that depicts the image of a god." From the Edo period, the images of three gods: Ebisu Okami (Nishinomiya Shinkage), Okuninushi Okami (Daikoku Shinkage), and the God of the Rice Fields (Gokoku Shinkage), came to be revered. As an amulet bearing the images of these three gods, the omikage of Nishinomiya Shrine was officially designated by the Edo shogunate, and subsequently, with Nishinomiya Ebisu Shrine as its head temple, it began to be enshrined at shrines nationwide. Originally, omikage were meant to be enshrined in a high, clean place within the home, just like a household Shinto altar (kamidana), but the Osugata-mamori was created to allow people to carry them around. It is a portable god that is believed to bring various benefits, such as good fortune in money, work, love, recovery from illness, health, and warding off evil.
