Photographer Jonathan Levite, inspired by natural history, mythology, and a primal view of the natural world as a living and enchanting place, sought out endangered and haunted places, that is, natural landscapes still animated by pristine habitats and their corresponding wildlife. The result is a series of images that evoke fossilized elements of animistic art and oral traditions of classical poetry, such as geese flying around their nests at Cape St. Mary's, humpback whales in the rain near Grand Manan Island in the Bay of Fundy estuary, and flocks of wading birds in the cypress swamps near Chokoloskee, Florida. In particular, synesthesia, transmigrification, onomatopoeia, and a non-linear sense of time are expressed.
