# Tail Feathered Hagoita (Paddle) This is an Oshie Hagoita (pressed-picture paddle) with a Kabuki motif, kept in its box as part of a collection and never displayed. Based on the facial features and choice of materials, I suspect it was made by the late Kozetsu Nishiyama. Performance: Kenuki (Hair Pulling) Role: Kume no Tera Danjo Actor: Onoe Shoroku The back features the Otowaya family crest, a "Daiki Gashiwa" (oak leaves within four rings). The detailed craftsmanship is impressive. It appears to be from the mid-Showa period, and is a luxurious piece with three layers of gold leaf applied to the paulownia wood. The use of period fabrics, cords, and silk threads will also be appreciated by antique enthusiasts. This is not a modern item. It is unused and in very good condition, but there is some aging (fading on the silk cords). Please check the photos for the condition. Enjoy the stage presence of Shoroku-sama with this small Hagoita during the New Year's season. It was originally made for framing, but if you want to display it standing up, please use bookends or something similar as shown in the photo.
