Author Profile Utsubo Kubota (June 8, 1877 - April 12, 1967) was a Japanese tanka poet and scholar of Japanese literature. He was a member of the Japan Art Academy, a former professor at Waseda University, and a Person of Cultural Merit. His real name was Michiharu Kubota. His son is Shoichiro Kubota, also a tanka poet. He participated in the early days of the literary magazine "Myojo." Influenced by romanticism and naturalism, he wrote about the subtleties of introspective emotions. He also made significant contributions to the interpretation of classical literature. His poetry collections include "Mahiruno" (1905) and his tanka collection "Tsuchi o Nagamete" (1918). In 1914, he founded "Kokumin Bungaku" (National Literature).
