The works we introduce are vintage pieces produced on a small scale in post-World War II Italy and West Germany. While some, like Bitossi, still reproduce old designs today, reproductions do not become collector's items. Bitossi Bitossi Ceramiche is a historic Italian ceramics brand established in 1921. Aldo Londi became the art director in 1946 and established a mass-production system incorporating artisanal techniques. In recent years, they have collaborated with designers from around the world to develop innovative products. (Quoted from IDEE SHOP Online) Aldo Londi Born in Florence, Italy in 1911. Died in 2003. He began working at a ceramics factory at the age of 11. During World War II, while imprisoned in a concentration camp in Johannesburg, South Africa, he created a ceramics workshop and devoted himself to production. Afterwards, he traveled to various countries and created works in different places, and also contributed to the establishment of a ceramics school. He exhibited at domestic and international exhibitions such as the Milan Triennale and the International Handicraft Exhibition. Many of his works are housed in the Faenza International Ceramics Museum and the British Royal Collection. (Quoted from IDEE SHOP Online) This is a horse sculpture designed by Aldo Londi in the 1960s. Bitossi often uses a combination of glossy glazes like Rimini Blue and various patterns. This work features a matte brown base with decoration consisting only of simple lines, rather than patterns. It is a very rare piece, but the name of the decoration is unknown.
