This is a white mud-dyed Oshima Tsumugi kimono made by Keio Oshima Tsumugi Weaving. Goro Keiseki is one of the leading artists of Honba Oshima Tsumugi, a traditional craft originating from Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. He is famous for creating the finest Oshima Tsumugi, and his works were even presented to Emperor Showa. The Oshima Tsumugi woven by Keio Oshima Tsumugi Weaving, which gained nationwide popularity thanks to the efforts of Goro Keiseki and his son Michio, is called "Keio Oshima" and is still highly coveted by kimono enthusiasts today. White Oshima is exceptionally rare among Oshima Tsumugi. The smooth texture and wrinkle-resistant properties unique to Oshima, along with the wonderful feel that becomes more comfortable with each wear, and the soft, off-white color unique to white Oshima, create an unparalleled charm. Keio Oshima Tsumugi's white Oshima is dyed white using Hakkeidoro, a dye developed using white clay, the same material used for white Satsuma ware. Compared to traditional white Oshima, white Keidoro-dyed Oshima Tsumugi has a deeper, softer off-white color, and it has also obtained a patent for the white mud dyeing process. The characteristic of "Hakkeidoro" is that it results in a fabric that is both white and as durable as mud-dyed fabrics. This is a design featuring a delicate katas-style hemp leaf pattern. The simple pattern and color make it suitable for people of all ages. A certification tag is also included.
