This wood is sometimes used as a substitute for mahogany and, like mahogany, it has the characteristic of changing to a reddish-brown color over time. The wood is somewhat heavy and hard, and there is little distortion after drying. On the quarter-sawn surface, beautiful ribbon figuring can be seen, with bands of soft tissue arranged regularly. This is sold as a material, so finishing and polishing are not performed. Warping or cracking may occur in natural solid wood.
