This is an Iga-yaki (old Iga-yaki) brush holder. It is believed to be from the Edo period. The tightly fired clay body is beautifully complemented by the glassy straw ash glaze around the rim. A pattern resembling six coins is impressed on the side. This item was found in the storehouse of an old family in Shinshu. The size is 7.3 cm in diameter at the mouth, 8 cm in diameter at the base, and 11 cm in height. It comes in a paulownia wood box. It will be carefully packed and shipped.
