Julien, a radio repairman living near the border of Belgium and France, leaves his village with his family to escape the German invasion. He puts his pregnant wife and child on a train and travels in a livestock car. At a certain station, he meets Anna, a young Jewish woman trying to board the train. Julien and Anna, who initially don't even exchange words, gradually become attracted to each other. The film stars Jean-Louis Trintignant from "A Man and a Woman" and Romy Schneider from "The Swimming Pool."
