Here are two commercially available bait scoops with bamboo handles, one coated with lacquer and the other with varnish. They have been used for fishing, and as you can see in the photos, the paint is chipped, revealing the bamboo, and there are scratches. However, they are still perfectly usable. I put a lot of time and care into making them, and I'm quite fond of them, but I don't go fishing anymore, so I'm putting them up for sale. Thank you for looking.
