This is a natural finishing whetstone of the Asagi type, said to be from Shobonzan in Umegahata, Kyoto. Whetstones from Shobonzan have fine and stable grit, and have been widely used for finishing purposes due to their pale color unique to Asagi and smooth sharpening feel.
