Symbol: T.97 Issue Date: September 11, 1984 Issuing Authority: Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of the People's Republic of China In September 1981, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council decided to construct the "Project to Divert Luan River Water to Tianjin." The groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 11, 1982, in Zunhua County, Hebei Province. This large-scale project, approximately 234 km long, diverted water from the Luan River, starting at the Daheiku Reservoir in Qianxi County, Hebei Province, and transporting it to Tianjin via tunnels through the Yanshan Mountains, open channels, underground channels, and pumping stations. Formal water delivery began on September 11, 1983, supplying 1 billion tons of water annually. This special stamp was issued in 1984 to commemorate the first anniversary of the water delivery. The design of this stamp is called "Water Diversion Hub." The design depicts the magnificent view of the water diversion hub of the Project to Divert Luan River Water to Tianjin. The designer used a frontal perspective to portray the water gushing out from the gates of the water diversion hub, representing the clear water flowing vigorously. This is a used, vintage item.
