The copper plate is cut to shape, and glass enamel is applied to both sides and fired at high temperature. The texture feels similar to porcelain. Since the material is glass, dropping or bumping it can cause cracks, but if you handle it with care, you can use it for decades. The brooch pin uses a lock-type rotating pin that is difficult to come undone.
