The pot shafts are short size, suitable for pickguard mounting. You can wire it to pickups, ground, and output jack, but it's also good for parts. 500k pots are less likely to suppress high frequencies compared to 250k pots, so they can be matched with humbuckers, but there's no problem using them with single-coil pickups. If you want good high-end response, 500k will bring out a lot of high frequencies. You can use the high-cut tone to suppress the highs and then release them when you want more high frequencies, or it can be good for guitars with muffled sound to emphasize the high frequencies.
