Two Tokusa-patterned yunomi (teacups). There are no noticeable scratches on these, but both have marks on the foot rings that appear to be kiln marks from firing. Although they are not noticeable scratches, I am listing them as "slightly damaged" just in case. Please refrain from purchasing if you are looking for perfection or are overly concerned about condition. Please understand that these are items stored at home.
They are believed to be from the Meiji era.
The pattern on these yunomi is called Tokusa, which is based on the horsetail plant, a plant of the genus Equisetum. The horsetail has no flowers or leaves, just stems that grow straight up, and it is a familiar plant often seen in gardens. In the past, it was said that polishing gold with horsetail would make it shine and increase its luster, so even today it is considered a lucky pattern that brings good fortune.
