The gap between his handsome looks in his younger days and his later years as a serious junkie is amazing. He was still in his 40s at this time ^_^ D. Sebesky, a famous arranger and producer, oversaw the entire album, and his influence is strong. The subtle orchestra also works well. And, big names from the jazz + fusion world are supporting him. It's interesting how it goes back and forth between funk and 4-beat from the start (the solo exchange between electric and acoustic bass is rare). The original was on the A&M Horizon label. M. Brecker, J. Scofield P. Desmond, R. Beirach, R. Carter, A. Johnson, T. Williams, and others The main player has a nice, seasoned flavor. The people around him are so amazing that he doesn't stand out, but he plays good solos that are characteristic of him. He's known as a pure jazz musician, but I think this is a good album.
