✳️ This item is sold. This is a work by Susie Cooper, a British potter (and designer), a very rare large vase (20cm tall) from the 1926-30s, "GLORIALUSTRE". It is a piece that beautifully expresses the Art Deco style of the early 20th century. The history of lusterware dates back to the 18th century. It is a technique of applying a shimmering metallic film over the glaze. In 1926, 24-year-old Susie Cooper was impressed by lusterware works at an exhibition and tried to create her own. This work is very rare, and the number of existing pieces is quite limited. Works with this motif are described in the book "SUSIE COOPER, AN ELEGANT AFFAIR" (last two pages of the photo), and it is a powerful work from Susie's younger days. Susie's Glorialuster works are very popular in Europe and America. This is because, in addition to the beauty of the works themselves, Gloria tends to peel off quickly with use, so there are very few works that remain in beautiful condition. Also, the small number of pieces made increases the rarity. This is why this work is called a "phantom." Susie's debut was in 1922 at the age of 20. Under US tax law, items over 100 years old are called antiques, and those under are called vintage, so Susie's works will gradually be evaluated as antiques in both name and reality. ❇️ The size is 21cm in height. ❇️ The production period is estimated to be from 1926 to 1929, based on the backstamp and pattern number. The "GLORIALUSTER, AE GRAY and Co Ltd. ENGLAND" stamp on the backstamp is a design of the rising sun, specially devised to give a sense of luxury to the Glorialuster works. ❇️ The motif is: Vibrant "stylized floral patterns with blue, purple, red, and gold edges." ❇️ Condition: It is a Gloria Luster from about 100 years ago, but there are no scratches. There are no cracks, and it is in excellent condition. It is a mystery that such a large work has survived in this condition. It is a wonderful work no matter how many times you look at it.
