It is a spin-off that depicts the aftermath of "NARUTO," with the protagonist being Naruto Uzumaki's son, Boruto Uzumaki. It is said that it began when the original author, Masashi Kishimoto, thought, "Wouldn't it be interesting if someone else drew 'NARUTO' as a reboot?" near the end of "NARUTO's" serialization. Later, when Shueisha asked Kishimoto himself to write a sequel to "NARUTO," he replied, "I've already drawn everything, so I won't do it, but I'm okay with Ikemoto doing it," and the story progressed.
